Mock neck vs quarter zip: which should your team order?
A quarter zip is the safe company layer. A mock neck is the same idea without the zipper, and it has become the pick for studios, retail and younger teams. Battle Born Clothing embroiders both; here is how to choose.
The difference in one table
| Quarter zip (Port Authority F218) | Mock neck (Independent IND280MOCK) | |
|---|---|---|
| Collar | Cadet collar with 1/4 zipper | Standing collar, no zipper |
| Fit | Unisex, relaxed | Women's cut (unisex mock: LAT 6928, quoted) |
| Fabric | Polyester fleece | Midweight cotton/poly fleece |
| All-in at 24 | $27.57 | $21.51 |
| All-in at 144 | $25.57 | $19.51 |
| Logo placement | Left chest, below zipper tape | Left chest or small centered |
| Reads as | Office, corporate, golf | Studio, retail, lifestyle |
When the quarter zip wins
- The order is a company-wide gift and you need one safe style for everyone.
- People will wear it over a collared shirt.
- You want it to look like a uniform at a trade show or open house.
- The team is mostly men, or you are ordering one unisex cut.
When the mock neck wins
- The team is a fitness studio, salon, boutique, clinic front desk or a younger office.
- You want a women's cut that fits without ordering a separate women's quarter zip.
- Budget matters: the IND280MOCK is about $6 less per piece than the F218 at every tier.
- You want a small centered logo instead of a left-chest one.
Embroidery differences
On a quarter zip the logo sits left chest, below the zipper tape, so the pull never lands on the stitching. On a mock neck there is no zipper, so the logo can sit higher and closer to center, and a small centered mark (1.5 to 2.5 inches) is a popular look. Both take up to 6,000 stitches on the same matrix: $6.00 per piece at 12-47 down to $4.00 at 144+, plus $18.99 digitizing once.
Ordering both
Many orders are a mix: F218 quarter zips for most of the staff and IND280MOCK or TriDri TD660 mock necks for those who prefer a fitted cut. One logo, one digitizing fee, each style priced at its own tier. For a unisex mock neck, the LAT 6928 is quoted per job.
Example: 36 pieces, two styles

Questions
Is a mock neck warmer than a quarter zip?
About the same in the same fabric. The zipper lets a quarter zip vent; a mock neck does not.
Can you put a logo on the collar of a mock neck?
A very small mark on the collar is possible but hard to read. We recommend left chest or centered chest.
